Senior Year

It is time again for another of my ‘life update’ posts. I’ll be entering 12th grade next week, and so I feel that it is a good time to write a little bit about where I am with my life, my writing blogging so far this year, and some other general thoughts.

I’m not quite sure yet how I feel about becoming a senior and starting the final year of high school. I guess you could call it being on the verge of change, but not yet experiencing any immediate major change. After all, senior year is technically simply another year of school. I’ll be taking the same subjects with the same teachers and the same classmates; nothing new there. But the fact that it is being on the cusp of entering university makes becoming a senior a strange feeling. It’s a little surreal to think that by the end of the year I’ll know what I’ll be doing for the next four years. It also makes everything feel so much more important; everything counts.

It will, of course, be yet another busy year; more accurately, it will be the busiest of years. Juggling schoolwork, university applications, extracurriculars and adequate sleep is always a tough ask. Sadly, more often that not, sleep is the casualty when the balancing act collapses. Stress and exhaustion is a less than pleasant byproduct of this workload. With this in mind, do I look forward to going back to school? Some bits of it, perhaps, but to be quite honest, not really. (But then again, who does really, honestly look forward to going back to school?)

The question, once again, is whether I’ll have the time to keep this blog going over the next year. On my more optimistic days I say yes; on my more realistic days I say I’m not sure. I’ve been on a bit of a posting streak this past two months due to the term break (over ten posts in a period of a little over two months!) and there’s no way that I can keep up with this total when school comes back. The numbers speak for themselves; I wrote about four posts over the entire first semester last year, so I wouldn’t expect myself to do too much better this time around.

But I do truly enjoy writing, and as people say, what you enjoy you make time for. In the times when I do manage to get posts out, I think that I will continue writing a mixture of Thai and global politics. Thai politics has finally accelerated its pace a little bit after the relative stagnation of the past two years, so I’m sure that I will find things to comment upon. Global politics, of course, continues to be as interesting as ever, especially with the American election finally entering its final curve.

In the unexpected circumstance where I do find time, I also want to branch out my writing a little bit more on this blog. Perhaps some book reviews would be nice (I do read a fair bit) and maybe I could go back to writing more about history, something which I’ve neglected a littler over the past year or two in my writing as I’ve been focusing more on politics.

Overall, it looks like it will be a busy year. Everything counts now. As always thank you for your continued support, thank you for your criticism & most importantly, thank you for reading. I really do appreciate everything.
