Over the years, many friends have told me that they enjoy reading my writing, but wished they had a better grasp of Thai politics so that they could understand better what was going on.
I thought about this for a while and decided that they have a point. One of my key goals in writing has always been to make Thai politics both accessible and interesting to both a domestic and foreign audience, but there is a lot of assumed prior knowledge that goes into what I write. How, then, could I solve this?
I eventually decided to put up a new page on my website called ‘Thai Politics, Explained‘ under the Projects tab. It aims to explain Thai politics today in clear and simple terms, without too much unnecessary historical background or minute details. Essentially, it serves as a ‘Thai politics 101’ — a couple of minutes of reading that can bring everyone up to speed on where Thailand is politically. I plan to update the page every once in a while as the political landscape shifts.
If you have any thoughts on how I can improve this page, I’d love to hear from you! As someone who’s quite “in the weeds” with the subject, it’s totally possible that I’ve lost my sense of perspective of what is necessary information and what is not. If there’s anything that you think should be added (or taken out), please feel free to let me know!
As always, thanks for reading.
